Remembrance Day Ceremonies in Edmonton

Lest We Forget

The City of Edmonton and its community gather together to remember and honour those who have sacrificed their lives for peace. The following ceremonies are taking place around the city:

Remembrance Day Service at City Hall

  • November 11, 2015
  • 10:15-10:35 am
  • City Room, City Hall

Led by the Commanding Officer of The Loyal Edmonton Regiment, a Remembrance Day service will be held at City Hall to honour the achievements and sacrifices of those who served our country in times of war and peace. His Worship, Mayor Don Iveson will also be in attendance.

**Please note: Seating in the City Room will start at 9:45am and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. 100 Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction on November 11 from 9am to noon to accommodate Remembrance Day Ceremonies at City Hall. Detour using 97 Street to avoid travel delays. Free parking will be available at City Hall.

Wreath-laying Ceremony

  • November 11, 2015
  • 10:55–11:30 am
  • City Hall Cenotaph (outside on the City Hall Plaza)

Following the service in the City Room, there will be an outdoor procession to the City Hall cenotaph, where wreaths will be laid.

**Please note: Spectators are asked to be in place by 10:50am and to remain clear of the cenotaph to allow room for the wreath-laying ceremony.

 

Remembrance Day Ceremony at the U of A Butterdome

  • November 11, 2015
  • 10:15 am
  • Butterdome at Van Vliet Centre, University of Alberta (89 Avenue and 112 Street)

Join Alberta’s Lieutenant Governor, the Honourable Lois Mitchell, and Edmonton Mayor Don Iveson, in a ceremony to pay respects to those who have sacrifices themselves for freedom in Canada’s conflicts.

**Please note: Parking is free at the Butterdome for those attending the service.

 

Remembrance Day at Municipal Cemeteries

Open for quiet reflection on Remembrance Day, the City of Edmonton’s Municipal Cemeteries join Canadians in remembering those who have sacrificed so much for our nation.

 

Fields of Honour

  • November 11th, 2015
  • Edmonton Cemetery: 11820 – 107 Avenue
  • Beechmount Cemetery: 12420 – 104 Street
  • Northern Lights Cemetery: 156 Street – St. Albert Trail (15203 Campbell Road)

In the Fields of Honour, the City of Edmonton cemeteries will be lowering the Canadian flag as a tribute to our veterans. For cemetery locations and maps, see the Municipal Cemeteries web page.

 

No Stone Left Alone Remembrance Ceremony

  • Tuesday, November 10th, 2015
  • 10:30–11:30 a.m.
  • Beechmount Cemetery Field of Honour (12420-104 Street)

The 5th annual No Stone Left Alone ceremony is being held at the Beechmount Cemetery. Junior high school students, soldiers and community members will gather to remember Canada’s fallen military personnel by placing poppies on soldiers headstones in the Fields of Honour.

 

Loyal Edmonton Regiment Military Museum

  • November 11, 2015
  • 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
  • Prince of Wales Armouries Heritage Centre (10440 – 108 Avenue)

The Loyal Edmonton Regiment Military Museum will hold a brief remembrance ceremony with a traditional minute of silence at 11am.

**Please Note: Free parking is available in front of the building.

 

ETS Remembrance Day Service

November 11th, 2015

Travel on Edmonton Transit is free for those in military uniform or legion dress, with a Canadian Forces identification card, or a veteran’s card identifying the individual as a veteran. ETS will be operating on regular Saturday hours, with most routes starting earlier in the day. Industrial and some peak hour residential routes will operate on their regular weekday schedules.

Royal Canadian Artillery Band Musical Salute at City Hall

  • Sunday, November 8, 2015, 2:00 p.m.
  • City Room, City Hall

The Royal Canadian Artillery (RCA) Band, featuring the Rhythm Gunners Big Band and the RCA Pipes and Drums, invite you to join them as they perform A Musical Salute: A Tribute to Our Veterans.

 

Veterans’ Week

  • November 5 to 11, 2015 across Canada

Please visit Veterans Affairs Canada for information on the Veterans’ Week ceremonies being held in your area, which honour those who have bravely served in our country’s military.

Light the Bridge

To honour the men and women who have bravely served in Canada’s Military, the High Level Bridge will be lit in red and white on Remembrance Day.
